Roll of Honour - Members of Winnipeg City Staff who Enlisted in Canada's Fighting Forces in World War II

View Transcription. This roll of honour consists of 537 hand painted names of City of Winnipeg employees who served in the Second World War. The names are organized by the department they worked in, and stars are placed next to the names of those who died during the war. The title at the top consists of elaborate calligraphy, as well as a Union Jack flag rising out of the letters. The centre of the print showcases an image of a knight's helmet and an elaborately sheathed sword above an image of the City of Winnipeg seal. The bottom features a quote from the ancient Greek leader Pericles, which Duthie chose himself.

Roll of Honour - City of Winnipeg Employees

View Transcription. The roll of honour is a painted list of names of City of Winnipeg Employees who served in the First World War. The list consists of 739 names, each stating what City department they were from, and each marked with a symbol beside them to indicate whether they were taken as a prisoner of war, wounded, killed, or decorated. The list is surrounded by a border of leaves that feature the coat of arms of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, as well as that of the City of Winnipeg in front of two flags: the Union Jack and the Canadian Red Ensign. Above the list is a painting of a battlefield scene.
