Forms part of Fonds 7. Series consists of Voters Lists for the Town of Tuxedo. Voters lists contain the names of all persons in the assessment rolls for the town. Voters Lists for the following years are missing: 1924-1929, 1933, 1935, 1970 and 1971.

Forms part of Fonds 7. Series consists of Minutes for the Council of the Town of Tuxedo. Interfiled with the minutes are various election records including nomination papers and Oaths of Office. Audited statements are included for some years.

General Correspondence

Forms part of Fonds 7. Series consists of all surviving correspondence directed toward the Town of Tuxedo. The correspondence dates from the first year of the Town of Tuxedo’s incorporation, 1913, until 1974, slightly beyond its final year as a unique entity, 1971. The correspondence covers a wide variety of topics relating to the establishment of the town, health, schools, snow removal and taxation, with the greatest attention given to land development and all related issues. The records are arranged alphabetically by subject.

Included at the end of this series is early correspondence, 1914 to 1947, relating to public works and includes seven agreements.

Agreements

Forms part of Fonds 3. Series consists of a set of agreements organized numerically by the Rural Municipality of Charleswood (no. 1 to 102; missing are 32 and 65). The agreements document various transactions ranging from the RM's incorporation to the purchasing or leasing of supplies and equipment. Included are agreements and related records (correspondence, urban plans, etc.) with individuals, local clubs, and other entities such as the City of Winnipeg. Common records include easement and lease agreements, employment and service contracts, and documents pertaining to public works or the regulation of municipal affairs.

Agreements are filed in a numerical sequence that begins in an ad hoc order and later becomes chronological. Both documents and their original sleeves have been placed into folders.

Early Communications and Agreements

Forms part of Fonds 3. Series consists of petitions, agreements, and other early records of the Rural Municipality of Charleswood. Petitions and agreements document local improvements and Council business transactions (leasing and transfer of land, agreements with contractors, appointments, etc.). Other records include applications, bonds, certificates, correspondence, and subdivision regulations. Series represents some of the earliest surviving records of the RM of Charleswood that were grouped together and not placed in other recordkeeping systems.

Forms part of Fonds 7. Series consists of all surviving Town of Tuxedo By-laws no. 1 to 1250; missing are no. 47 to 75 inclusive. Included are agreements, blueprints and maps. Each volume has a numerical table of contents.

Included at the end of the original by-laws are copies of various by-laws within the range of no. 107 to 267.

Photographs

Forms part of Fonds 15. Series consists of photographs taken by GWWD employees during the building of the Greater Winnipeg Aqueduct that brings water from Shoal Lake to Winnipeg. Photos are made up of nitrate negatives and lantern slides.

Agreements and Contracts

Forms part of Fonds 15. Series consists of numbered contracts and agreements entered into by the Greater Winnipeg Water District. Contracts and agreements are typically for the supply of building materials such as steel rails, steel splice bars or telephone lines, as well as for specific projects like the construction of a gate house or for clearance of a right-of-way. Plans and specifications are included with some contracts. The series is incomplete.

Financial Statements

Forms part of Fonds 7. Series consists of all surviving financial statements reflecting the financial operations of the Town of Tuxedo. The auditors’ reports and statements of accounts date from 1914 until the town’s final year as a unique entity, 1971.

Included are Annual Financial Statements and Reports sent to ratepayers with their annual tax bill.

Forms part of Fonds 1. Series consists of communications referred to the Special Publicity Committee between 1919 and 1920 regarding a proposed advertising campaign for the City of Winnipeg.

Special Committee on Investigation of the Fire Department

Forms part of Fonds 1. Series consists of communications and detailed reports regarding staffing levels and equipment in use by the Fire Department during this period, as well as the availability and pressure of water required to fight fires in various districts of the City. The file includes: a 1916 report on domestic water supply; copy of recommendations following the Stovel fire in 1916; copy of recommendations following the Enderton fire of 1918; blank application for employment with the Fire Department; transcript of meeting held in March of 1920 with statements from firemen who had been dismissed for going out on strike in 1919; departmental organization chart; map sheets showing location of water supply (in poor condition); detailed drawing of sewer structure. The records are contained in one folder and are in chronological order.

Municipal Solicitor Files

Forms part of Fonds 10. Series consists of files documenting communications between the Municipal Solicitor and the Rural Municipality and City of St Vital. It records the interpretation and application of law in a variety of municipal affairs, such as council matters, court cases, social welfare and hospital accounts, land and property issues, etc. Most files appear to have been created and maintained at the municipal office. Common record types include correspondence, agreements, copies and drafts of by-laws, court documents, and others.

Series includes groupings based on like subject headings. All groupings have a similar provenance with the exception of files labeled “St. Vital” that were likely assembled by the law firm McDonald & Dunham. Other firms hired by the municipality were Hough, Campbell & Ferguson and Newman, MacLean & Associates.

City Solicitor

Forms part of Fonds 12. Series consists of correspondence and working papers of the City Solicitor for St. Boniface. The records document a wide variety of subject matter, including charter revisions, claims against the city, land and property matters, issues relating to rail transportation, social welfare and hospital cases.

Most of the records are in subject files and are generally in chronological order. In addition to subject files, there are files labeled “General Correspondence” that cover the period 1933 through to 1971. Each of these files contains correspondence on a variety of issues.

The social welfare files, 1934-1954, contain correspondence and case histories presented before the St. Boniface Juvenile Court for children in care; correspondence, case histories and decisions rendered by the Municipal Commissioner for hospitalization and expenses including liens for repayment; correspondence and case histories under the Wives and Children's Maintenance Act and the Child Welfare Act; correspondence and case histories regarding children under the care of the Children's Aid Society of Eastern Manitoba. The hospital file, 1937-1952, includes case histories as well as correspondence regarding actions by the City of St. Boniface to collect on delinquent hospital accounts.
