The Committee on Public Safety was responsible for supervision of the City Fire Department, Signal System, Building, Plumbing and Electrical Inspection Services, and Transportation and Traffic. The name of the Committee changed from the Committee on Public Safety to the Public Safety Committee for the years 1951-1957. In 1958 the duties of the Public Safety Committee were taken over by the Committee on Public Works.
Scope and content
Forms part of Series 54. Subseries consists of minutes for the Committee on Finance, a standing committee of Council. The minutes of the Finance Committee contain a wide range of information relating to works undertaken by the City, employment practices, contract administration and policy implementation. Minutes of the Finance Committee also contain financial information for all other committees, which were required to report to the Finance Committee on any budget items. Indexes are included.
Minute book volumes are mainly in good condition, although the bindings and pages of some are fragile and should be handled with care.
